Advocacy to turn the tide on HIV / AIDS

Our HIV/AIDS advocacy action plan interlinks people impacted by HIV/AIDS and our staff in the communities where they live, together with national and global advocacy strategies on HIV/AIDS to end stigma, combat denial and indifference, and mobilize research, resources and policies for treatment, care and prevention.

• Mobilizing resources for expanded HIV/AIDS response

Poverty & HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS has affected the entire globe, but it has had caused far more devastation in poor countries. In some parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, over a quarter of the population is HIV-positive. No family is left untouched.

Poverty, combined with gender inequality and high mobility, is the leading cause of high HIV-prevalence in developing nations. Husbands are forced to leave their families in search of work. During the months or possibly years away, some engage in extramarital sex, often acquiring HIV. Upon returning to their families they infect their wives.

After the husbands have passed away, it is up to the women - many of whom are sick - to provide for their families alone. With no social services and cultural circumstances where women have reduced rights, the virus leaves families with nothing.

CadifKenya is calling on the governments attending the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and IMF in Dubai, to take urgent action to address the needs of AIDS-Affected Countries.
