HIV/AIDS Advocacy
At first glance, advocacy may be the most nebulous aspect of HIV/AIDS prevention
and care. But it is just as, if not a more important part of working with and
for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Advocacy is what changes the government
policies and practices that would otherwise limit the availability of
prevention awareness or access to effective therapy. It encourages
governments to respond to the effect of HIV/AIDS on their citizens.
It creates national and international responses that can reach even
the smallest, most obscure communities. It brings in funding from wealthy
nations to help in their fight against the pandemic.
While it is absolutely necessary to provide education and care, it is also
important to convince the international community of the urgency of action.
But what can you do to learn more, or be more
involved in advocacy?
